Growing plants are special furniture items that grow and wilt over time, all of which were brought to Club Penguin Island by Rockhopper and sold in Rockhopper's Rare Items. The first, Rare Flower Pot, was sold in April 2008. Unlike the other three, it stayed in its final stage of growth permanently. The other three (Sprouting Spectaculus, Plantus Fanasticus, and Surprisus Maximus) were all sold in May 2009. These three also tied in with the Adventure Party in June 2009, in which Club Penguin was overgrown by similar giant plants.

Stages[]

Between the four plants, there are three different formulas that affect growth. They are as follows:

Rare Flower Pot[]

The Rare Flower has six stages, and each one remained for one week following its release. Unlike the other three plants which grow and wilt in a cycle, it has permanently stayed in its final stage since June 6, 2008.

Plantus Fantasticus and Surprisus Maximus[]

These two plants have ten stages. When released, they were in their first stage for three weeks, and since then, grow by one stage every two weeks until they reach the tenth stage, which they only stay in for one week. After the tenth stage, they revert back to their fourth stage and the cycle repeats.

Sprouting Spectaculous[]

The Sprouting Spectaculous follows the same formula as the previous two, except it has eleven stages instead of ten. As such, it stays in its eleventh stage for one week instead of its tenth, and the cycle restarts after then. Because of this, the stage it is in is usually different than the above two.

Trivia[]

  • The three plants released in May 2009 have names parodying binomial nomenclature, the system for naming species, including plants. "Plantus Fantasticus" is similar to "Fantastic Plant" and "Surprisus Maximus" is similar to "Maximum Surprise". In the case of "Sprouting Spectaculous", sprouting is a real word, and "spectaculous" seems to be a portmanteau of "spectacular" and "marvelous".
  • According to Screenhog, the concept of furniture items that changed over time, like these plants, was not pursued further due to players seemingly being indifferent about the feature.[1]
