Aqua Grabber was a game in Club Penguin, located at the Iceberg, where the player dove underwater in the Aqua Grabber 3000 sub, collecting treasure and returning it to a net. It was originally used to salvage parts of The Migrator during the Save the Migrator Project, but due to popular demand, the game stayed after the project ended. The game was played by navigating underwater with arrow keys, and using the sub's grabber with the spacebar to pick up objects and drop them off in a net. The sub would constantly slowly lose air, requiring the player come into contact with bubbles, or surface above water, to regain air.

When initially released, Aqua Grabber only had one unnamed level, and had no missions beyond collecting Migrator parts. The Golden Wheel Pin was awarded upon collecting all five parts. On April 2, 2008[2], the sole level had its Migrator parts removed and replaced with clams. There was a treasure chest in the newly added bottom area of the level.

On August 6, 2008, the original level, Clam Waters, was slightly expanded, including a new cave in the left of the bottom area with a giant clam, replacing the treasure chest, and five missions were introduced: find the main treasure (big pearl), find the rare treasure (black pearl), complete the level without losing a sub (life), complete the level in a time trial (limited time to complete the level), and complete the level in "compressed air mode" (fast movement but colliding with anything causes loss of a sub). Missions were unlocked by completing the previous one, but were reset if the game was closed. A second level, Soda Seas, was also released.[3] This had the same missions as Clam Waters, but instead of the big pearl and black pearl, there was an amethyst and emerald as the main and rare treasures, respectively.

On July 26, 2010, Aqua Grabber got a major update. Along with the release of stamps, the title screen was updated, and unlocked missions were changed to stay unlocked, even after closing the game. The Soda Seas levels were also made members-only. A bug in the game, which occasionally made it impossible to grab treasure after it was dropped, was also fixed.

Image Notes
Rockhopper's rudder, treasure chest, ship wheel, anchor, and journal were scattered around the first iteration of Clam Waters. Each were worth 50 coins.
Treasure Chest
A treasure chest was in the cavern on the right in the bottom area of the second iteration of Clam Waters. It was worth 100 coins. Its function was replaced by the grand pearl in the third iteration.
Aqua Grabber pearl
Pearls are hidden inside four of the five clams in Clam Waters, as of the second iteration of the level. The player has to wait several seconds by a clam for them to fall asleep, then grab the pearl. Each are worth 25 coins.
Aqua Grabber black pearl
The black pearl is in one of the clams in Clam Waters, as of the third iteration of the level. Which clam has this pearl is random every time the level is entered. It is worth 50 coins.
Aqua Grabber pearl shaped rock
The pearl-shaped rock is in the cavern on the right in the bottom area of Clam Waters, as of the third iteration of the level. It is meant to be dropped in the giant clam's mouth so the grand pearl can be retrieved without waking the clam up. If it is dropped in the net, it is worth 1 coin, and the level is counted as cleared, although no objectives in the menu can be completed by clearing it this way.
Aqua Grabber grand pearl
The grand pearl is in the mouth of the giant clam, in the cavern on the left in the bottom area of Clam Waters, as of the third iteration of the level. If the pearl shaped rock is dropped in the clam's mouth, the pearl can be retrieved. If it is dropped in the net, it is worth 300 coins, and the level is cleared.
Aqua Grabber cream soda
Five cream soda barrels are scattered throughout Soda Seas, polluting the water and damaging ocean life. If they are dropped in the net, they are worth 50 coins each. Every time a barrel is dropped in the net, some of the soda pollution is cleared, and ocean life, such as seaweed and coral, is healed, which allows progress in the level.
Aqua Grabber amethyst
The amethyst is in a cavern deep in Soda Seas, beyond other caves with puffer fish, including a giant one. If it is dropped in the net, it is worth 600 coins, and the level is cleared.
Aqua Grabber coin pile
The coin pile is hidden in a cavern beyond the mullet in Soda Seas. A crab nearby tries to take the coins. The pile can be grabbed up to ten times, by the player and/or the crab. Each time it is grabbed from, it yields 20 coins, for a maximum of 200.
Treasure Hunt emerald
The emerald is given to the player by the crab in Soda Seas if it is allowed to have all the coins in the pile. If the pile is grabbed at all by the player, the crab does not give up the emerald. It is worth 500 coins.

Creatures[]

Image Notes
Aqua Grabber clam
There are five clams in Clam Waters, each of which has a pearl. Four of these are regular pearls, one is a rare black pearl. After a few moments, they fall asleep and open their mouth, allowing their pearl to be obtained. If the player bumps into a nearby wall, any clams close by will shut their mouth.
Aqua Grabber giant clam
The giant clam is sleeping at the bottom of Clam Waters, and holds the grand pearl. If the pearl is grabbed from it, it will wake up and eat the player and spit them out, causing the sub to lose a lot of air. If the pearl-shaped rock is dropped in its mouth, it will not wake up if the pearl is grabbed.
Aqua Grabber fluffy
A fluffy swims around in a circle near where the giant clam is located in Clam Waters. Two more appear higher in the level once the grand pearl is grabbed. Another fluffy swims around the central area of Soda Seas. If the player has the bait, this fluffy can be grabbed, but it will struggle and move around every few seconds. It can also be used to catch the mullet. If it is dropped in the net, it is worth 200 coins.
Aqua Grabber mullet
A mullet swims around at the entrance to the bottom caverns in Clam Waters once the grand pearl is grabbed. Another appears in a cavern in the east side of Soda Seas. Beyond this mullet is a hidden cavern with a pile of coins and a crab. This mullet can be grabbed if the player has fluffy as bait, but it will struggle forcefully and move around every few seconds. If it is dropped in the net, it is worth 1000 coins. If it escapes once caught, it will not reappear until the level is restarted.
Aqua Grabber giant squid
Although it cannot be interacted with, a silhouette of the giant squid can appear in the background of Clam Waters. When going near the entrance to the bottom caverns, there is a 5% chance it appears. When this happens, the sea will shake, the giant squid swims around in the background, stays still for a few seconds, then swims away.
Aqua Grabber bait
The bait is in a cavern in the west side of Soda Seas. The ceiling of the cave has to be bumped into multiple times in quick succession for the bait to drop from the ceiling into the water. The bait can be used to catch fluffy. If it is dropped in the net, it is worth 1 coin.
Aqua Grabber pufferfish small
Aqua Grabber pufferfish big
Three pufferfish appear in a cavern deep in Soda Seas. Colliding with one causes the player to be bounced off. They are initially small, but inflate themselves if the player is near, and deflate if the player leaves the area. Two appear circling around the giant pufferfish after it inflates.
Aqua Grabber giant pufferfish small
Aqua Grabber giant pufferfish big
The giant pufferfish is near the bottom of Soda Seas, above the amethyst. If the player is near, it inflates itself, inhaling air in the process, which pulls the player toward it. After several seconds, it deflates, exhaling air, pushing the player away.
Aqua Grabber crab
The crab is in a hidden cavern beyond the mullet in Soda Seas. It tries to grab coins from a nearby pile and take them into its cave. The smaller the pile, the faster the crabs. If it grabs all the coins in the pile, it gives the player an emerald, then retreats into its cave. If any coins are taken by the player, the crab walks back into its cave, annoyed, and does not give up the emerald.

Objective[]

AquaGrabberInGame

The Aqua Grabber machine, as seen at the Iceberg

  • Clam Waters: Collect all the pearls and the "Main Treasure" (the giant pearl). The Rare Treasure of the level was a black pearl which was hidden in a random clam that changed every time.
  • Soda Seas: Collect all of the cream soda barrels and the "Main Treasure" (the amethyst crystal). The crystal was guarded by puffer fish. The rare treasure of the level was the emerald, which was guarded by a crab. To get this, the player had to let the crab take all of the gold, then it would give the player the treasure.

Trivia[]

  • It was originally made to help repair The Migrator in the Save the Migrator Project, but it stayed due to high demand.
  • Before the game was released, a poll was held to help name the game. The two other names that could be voted for were "Deep Sea Salvage" and "Depth Diver".
  • There were two Card-Jitsu power cards featuring the Aqua Grabber.
  • After Soda Seas and missions were added to the game in August 2008, a map was introduced, which appeared after clicking START GAME on the title screen. This map allowed players to choose which level and which mission they wanted to play, and after doing so, a haphazardly dotted line appeared, from the Iceberg to the selected level. When Clam Waters was the only level, there was no map, and pressing START GAME immediately started the level. When the game was updated in July 2010, the map was removed, and level and mission selection was done through the title screen.
    • During the time the level selection map was in Aqua Grabber, map text and rough placeholder graphics for four unused levels, none of which were ever made into actual levels, were included in the game's swf files, including dotted lines that led to specific locations but without corresponding icons. These unused levels were labeled levels 3 through 6 (Clam Waters was 1 and Soda Seas was 2), and were named Turtle Tunnels, Icy Tides, The Deep End, and Bubbling Bay, respectively. No actual code or graphics for the levels themselves were made, only the selection map.

Glitches[]

  • There was a glitch that if you were getting a coin from the crab or a little pearl, and your ship exploded before it got into the sub, it would float under you and make it impossible to move the claw.
