This page is a guide for uploading images. You may want to use the sidebar on the right to directly read the help section you are looking for.

Uploading[]

There are a few different ways to upload files to the wiki, which are described on Help:Uploading files and Help:Multiple uploads. However, we recommend uploading via the Special:Upload page. If you want to upload multiple files at once using Special:Upload, you can add the MultiUpload script to your personal JavaScript page.

File types[]

Image help

There are 4 standard file types for images to upload to the wiki:

Digital artwork[]

  • .png - the recommended file type for game artwork and screenshots.
  • .svg - the recommended file type for scalable graphics with basic shapes, like icons or logos.

Photographs[]

  • .jpg or .jpeg - the standard file type for photos taken with a camera.

Animations[]

  • .gif - a file type that is great for animations but not very good for regular images due to a limited color palette.

File names[]

When uploading an image to the wiki, make sure the file name is subjective. Also, make sure the name gives enough information about the image to make it easier to find.
Also, you must not use inappropriate or offensive language in your file name.

Our image policy[]

We have several rules about image uploading:

  • Image Policy - make sure your images do not violate this policy.
  • Privacy Policy - do not upload images that reveal sensitive information about yourself or other users.

Licensing[]

When uploading an image, you must add proper licensing. Licenses are meant to attribute the source of the image. Since some images contain copyrighted material, you will need to choose the correct licensing.
You can add licensing using the dropdown list when uploading an image.
Please note that images you upload which are not given proper licensing may be deleted due to copyright. The source from which you obtained an image should also be clearly indicated through the file name or summary so that users can easily reference the source in the future.

Tips[]

  • For the highest quality, we recommend that you upload most images in .png format since it uses lossless compression instead of the lossy compression used by .jpg format.
  • If you plan to edit a .jpg image in an image editor, try to edit the original version of the file or select minimum compression to prevent over-compression.
